Portmagee is a small village on the very south west tip of Ireland. The village was founded in 1690 by the famous Irish smuggler Captain Theobald Magee from whom the village takes it’s name. Portmagee – The Port of Magee.
All Portmagee whiskeys are finished in Barbados Rum casks in homage to the rum smuggling exploits of Captain Magee.
Portmagee small batch is a blend of Single Malt and Single Grain Irish Whiskeys which have been hand crafted by Portmagee’s Stuart McNamara, a co founder of Portmagee Whiskey and the editor of WhiskeyBlogger.com.
Portmagee Whiskey is crafted in small six cask batches using Barbados Rum casks that are hand selected by Stuart.
All Portmagee Whiskeys are non chill filtered with no artificial color.
Tasting Notes.
Nose
Gentle malty nose with warm apple sponge, coconut, toasted oak vanilla and toffee apple.
Taste
Creamy butter-toffee mouth feel yields to a surge of single malt mid-tongue with notes of rich Irish fruit cake and dark chocolate.
Finish
Warm malt lingers and slowly fades to a smooth and throat soothing Barbados Rum Finish.
